2010-2011 Loy Norrix Annual Report Released
The Annual Education Report (AER) provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress of the Kalamazoo Public Schools district (KPS) as required by federal (No Child Left Behind Act) and state (P.A. 25) laws. The AER is attached as a pdf for you to review here, and paper copies are available in the main office.
The State of Michigan provides a guide to reading and understanding district and school report cards here. District staff are also available to help you understand the information contained in this report. Please contact edwardsjf [at] kalamazoo [dot] k12 [dot] mi [dot] us (subject: 2010-2011%20Annual%20Report) (Johnny Edwards) if you need assistance.
For 2010-2011, Loy Norrix High School did not make Adequate Yearly Progress, as defined by state and federal guidelines, due to not meeting the State Objective in Reading for African-American students and Economically Disadvantaged students. Loy Norrix Continues to implement its restructuring plan. Academic achievement gains on the Michigan Merit exams have been made in every content area over the past two years. We will continue to emphasize the importance of literacy through reading, writing, and language development. We will dedicate 30 minutes per week to reading and each student will keep a writing folder/portfolio in their English Language Arts course. As parents and community members, you can assist us by frequently taking your child to the local library to check out books to read for enjoyment, purchase books as a gift for your child, and/or donate used high school appropriate books to Loy Norrix High School.
The report also contains the following information:
- Process for assigning pupils to the school
- Status of the 3-5 year school improvement plan
- A brief description of each specialized school
- How to access a copy of the core curriculum, a description of its implementation and an explanation of the variances from the state's model
- Aggregate student achievement results for any local competency tests or nationally normed achievement tests
- The number and percent of students represented by parents at parent-teacher conferences.
- The number and percent of post-secondary enrollments (dual enrollment)
- The number of college-equivalent courses offered (AP/IB)
- The number and percent of students enrolled in college-equivalent courses (AP/IB)
- The number and percent of students receiving a score leading to college credit
